For information on Home Pest Control, please read the following:

The practice of pest control and gardening has been around for longer than you might think: at least as long as common agriculture. This trade has grown quickly, doubling its growth in the past few years. In the past 5 years the pest control business has grown 50 % and has become a $7 billion dollar business.

Homes are increasingly being built in places that are off the beaten path . Many people have a strong desire to reside in the woods or desert. When you’re building in these areas where insects and animals live, it’s their home. Since they get into your home and are unwanted they become pests.

One has to ask oneself what Gardening and Pest control actually means?

Simply put it means the reduction or eradication of pests. There is a difference between pest control and structural pest control in that the one is control of creatures affecting plants, soil or lawn etc and the other is control of creatures such as termites which invade buildings or outhouses. That can sometimes spill over into the house as well, but by and large, it’s the garden we’re talking about here.

Protecting the plants in your garden must be done in order to have healthy produce results. Usually, pests are not discovered until their damages have already been done or they explode in numbers. There are steps that one can take to help get rid of the problem at hand.

How Do We Control Pests in the Garden?

Both gardening and pest control are considered easy and hence majority sees them as do it yourself jobs. Well that’s fair enough – up to a point. Gardening pest control is like visiting the doctor: to prescribe effective treatment your physician must correctly diagnose the problem and determine the extent of the injury as well as the potential for further injury. Through surveys, it has been discovered that homeowners often don’t read the instructions carefully or they alter them in ways they think will better solve their problem.

The well being of both your family and any visitors into your home  could be affected by this over concentration of insecticide. Of course we are specifically referring to chemicals, as chemical pest control is still the predominant type of pest control today. However, since chemicals can have long range effects, interest was redirected toward traditional and biological pest control toward the end of the 20th century.

For those who don’t do DIY gardening and pest control, there is the option of monthly visits from your local home pest control company. If you have your house pest controlled on a monthly basis this means that problems will be detected as early as possible. Often homeowners are so worried about their homes becoming infested that they insist on monthly pest control treatments even when no problem exists.

It is astonishing to see the factual pattern of the pesticides used in the home and the garden;

1. A huge amount of pesticide is applies annually to lawns, typically something in the region of 67 million pounds.

2. Suburban lawns and gardens receive far heavier pesticide applications per acre than most agricultural areas.

Think before you spray a pesticide. In fact, you may be getting rid of the bugs that are beneficial to keeping your pest problem under control. This will lead to more frequent spraying later on. There are benefits to having creatures that are often thought of as ‘pests’ in your garden; for one thing without them pollination cannot take place! Persistent, broad-spectrum, contact insecticides such as diazinon, malathion or carbaryl, should never be used. While these may seem to help, they actually provide only temporary control and kill more of the natural predators than the pests you are trying to eliminate. When their enemies are gone, pest populations may soar and become more of a problem than before they were sprayed.

Most consumers also don’t realize how potentially harmful they can be:

1. Pesticides are easily tracked indoors, an EPA study found 23 pesticides in dust and air inside homes.Do you, the consumer, know just how dangerous they are to you?

2. The US Geological Survey finds a large variety of chemical gardening products– especially weed killers– in bodies of water near population centers, leaving no doubt that chemical products are harmful to the environment.

It’s shocking to some people who feel we cannot live without these pest control methosds.

Gardening and Natural Home Pest Control

We believe the logical approach to gardening and pest control is to create a balance of organisms in your yard or garden. Natural pest control is less expensive than buying and applying pesticides, and it’s safer for your garden, natural wildlife and the environment.

There are several methods that can be used to help eradicate gardening pests:

1. Physical controls – traps, barriers, fabric row covers or repellents – are often successful at controlling pests.

2. There are a variety of plants that provide both pollen and nectar constantly. Planting these will attract ‘good’ bugs to your garden.

3. You can keep pests from damaging your plants by preventing them getting to the plants in the first place. If you only see a few pests, physically removung them can sometimes keep the problem in check.

So, you are not alone, this is obviously a problem encountered by a vast number of people. Home pest control is needed by thousands of people and hopefully this helps.
