A book stand is a valuable accessory for any true lover of books. Currently proffered designs vary from simple wire creations such as the Fold’N'Stow that holds a book at adjustable angles on virtually any flat surface, to the infinitely more elaborate LEVO Bookholder that retains your book or other reading material in either a floor standing design or a clamp-on design that easily clamps to any table, desk, or counter top. Most book stand designs work best with hard cover books, but they also can function quite nicely with paperbacks held in book holders like an OpenPage.

The Fold’N'Stow is among the least expensive of book stands. It folds compactly for easy storage and transport and comes with it’s own plastic pouch designed for use in a three ring binder. It can be placed on a countertop for recipe books, or atop your desk, table, workstation, bench, etc. Wire arms with page keepers swing out from the back plane to hold your book open, and, by adjusting how far apart the arms are, smaller and larger books may be readily accommodated. The back plane also has horizontal pieces that may be raised or lowered to adjust the angle at which the book is held relative the substrate.

The LEVO’s most popular book stand is the LEVO floor standing model, which includes a weighted base on casters for easy movement from chair side to bedside to desk side to beside the kitchen counter top. Wherever you position it, the LEVO can hold your book in just about any position you can imagine. With a bookboard which can be adjusted in any plane, and coupled with book mounting straps that will secure your book, even upside down, the LEVO makes reading truly hands-free just about anywhere.

The LEVO Clamp-on design is just as handy as the LEVO Floor Model, but features a clamp that safely attaches to just about any countertop, workbench, desk, table or other flat surface up to two inches thick, and offers the same movements as the floor model, without the range of vertical telescoping movements. By holding your book or other reading materials off the surface to which it is attached, the clamp on design saves the weight and expense of the weighted base while conserving work space, since neither your book nor your book holder rest on the surface.

Even though there are other book stand designs currently available, the Fold’N'Stow and LEVO designs have withstood the test of time and stand up well to long term use.
